Other business owners ask us this a lot: "Does SEO actually work?" So here's our answer, with our own numbers.

In June 2025, Livin Malaysia got 222 clicks from Google for the whole month. Five months later, in November, it was 4,501. Then we stopped, and it went back down. Both halves of that story are worth telling.

Where we started

Livin Malaysia is a small site. We write guides for people moving to Malaysia: visas, work permits, MM2H, cost of living, and moving over from Singapore or Indonesia.

When our Google data begins, in mid-May 2025, we had 14 clicks in the first 13 days and 6 keywords on page one. That was it.

What working with SingRank looked like

SingRank is an SEO and AI search agency in Singapore. There was no magic trick. They did three unglamorous things, and they kept doing them:

  • Wrote guides on things people actually search for, like work permits, PR, MM2H and entry rules.

  • Fixed the technical side: titles, descriptions, internal links and page structure.

  • Made our answers clear enough for AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews to quote. That's what GEO means.

What happened

Every month was better than the one before:

Month

Clicks from Google

Keywords on page one

June 2025

222

30

July 2025

675

87

August 2025

1,770

242

September 2025

2,186

398

October 2025

3,297

564

November 2025

4,501

917

From our Google Search Console. Keywords on page one = monthly average.

In November, our pages showed up in Google 443,278 times in one month. For a small relocation blog, that's a lot of people finding us.

Then we stopped

This is the part most testimonials leave out.

After mid-2025 we stopped publishing new articles. Traffic didn't crash in a day. It slowly leaked away:

Month

Clicks from Google

November 2025

4,501

December 2025

2,819

January 2026

969

April 2026

131

By April 2026 we were down about 97% from the peak. Newer pages from other sites pushed our older guides down, and we had nothing new to put in their place. Google's own ranking changes probably didn't help either.

Looking back, the lesson is simple: SEO isn't something you buy once. If you stop looking after it, it fades.

Why we're back

On 2 September 2026, we started working with SingRank again. The numbers made the decision easy: our best months were the months with steady work, and our worst months were the months without it.

We'll share how it goes once there's enough data to say something honest.

If you're thinking about SEO

A few things we'd tell a friend:

  • Check your Google Search Console first. It's free, and it doesn't lie.

  • Give it a few months. We passed 1,000 clicks a month about three months in.

  • Don't stop and hope. We did that, and it cost us about 97% of our traffic.

  • Ask for real numbers, not screenshots from a sales deck.

Quick questions

How long did it take to see results?

About three months to pass 1,000 clicks a month, and about six to reach our peak.
